Good as Gold is a 50/50 blend of barrel aged Gold with fresh Gold that has just completed primary fermentation. This blend is composed of three barrels, 1841 (18 month old Gold), 1858 (24 month old Gold) and 1907 (16 month old Gold) equally blended with the 127th batch of Gold brewed in late December 2021.
An initially flinty and oaky nose that melds with powdered ginger and earthy spice. Lemon citrus and herbal spice intertwine with sweet ripe fruits and creamy oak. The palate is attractive... bright and bursting full of citrus zest and pith. Some funk and darker spice roams the back palate with a mildly bitter and acidic finish. A somehow more fruity Good as Gold Blend.
The base beer is brewed entirely with New South Wales cereals: Single Origin (S.O.) Riverina NSW grown Schooner ale malt and Coleambally NSW grown organic Red raw wheat thanks to Voyager Malt and Chris and Sam Greenwood. It is made with filtered Sydney water and Motueka (NZ) and Saaz (CZ) hops. Finally, it was fermented with our house culture: brewers yeast, foraged wild yeast and naturally occurring souring bacteria native to New South Wales. It was bottled on 6 January 2022 and naturally conditioned through refermentation for 17 weeks. At bottling it was 5.0% ABV, 25 IBU and 1.3°P (FG= 1.004 SG).
Like all our beers, Good as Gold Blend #16 is best enjoyed when decanted off a settled natural yeast sediment at cellar temperatures (10-12°C).
