Shark Island Brewing Co
Shark Island Brewing Co
29-33 Waratah St, Kirawee, NSW, 2232

Named after the iconic reef island surf break found just off the point of South Cronulla, all of our core range beers pay homage to the waves of the region.

Shark Island Brewery is a place where you can chill for a few hours, with great beer, good tunes and delicious food. Our beers are designed to be what you’d feel like after just spending half a day battling some waves along the Cronulla beaches. We brew session beers with flavour, coupled with a regular array of bolder, creative beers for the more adventurous punter.

Shark Island Brewing was established in 2015 by a bunch of mates with a long standing passion for brewing beer.  Brewers James Peebles (of 'Hopping Mad' brewery in Orange, and Balmain Brewery) and Dion 'Driza' Dickinson kicked off the initial idea and enlisted support from some old high school mates (Jannali High, no less!) to bring the brewery to life. These days, our crew has expanded to include other mates who all take part in running Shark Island Brewery - and yes, you'll see all of us proudly pouring beers at the cellar door!

Tasting Notes

Shiprock Hazy Pale AleThe combination of some well-loved hop favourites, such as Amarillo, Mosaic, Galaxy, Citra and Simcoe produces a big burst of tropical fruit flavours and aromas with a glorious hop haze. A generous serving of oats provides. a smooth, soft and creamy mouthfeel.

The Point Dark Ale - Our ever popular, easy drinking dark. We set out to create a beer that has the hops of an English Porter, married with the smooth malts of a German Schwartz Bier and we think we’ve nailed it. Not heavy on the palate but still with plenty of chocolate and roasted aromas, this a dark beer to enjoy whether it’s 4 degrees or 40 degrees. A year round beer for a year round wave.

Voodoo IPA - A strong beer for a strong break. Voodoo IPA is our most popular rotating beer. A more solid abv kick is balanced with the sweetness of NZ toffee malt before the mountain of US, NZ and Oz Hops attacks your palate first with tropical aromas then with a sharp bitterness that stays for a while and coats your cakehole.

Lager - As much as we love hoppy ales, we also enjoy the clean, crisp, slightly sweet and herbaceous flavours of a good German Lager and Shark Island delivers in spades. Using German Noble Hops we’ve created a beer for everyone, a beer to share, a beer to quench. A great place to start your beer tasting journey.

Australian Ale - This is our gateway ale and our introduction to Australian Hops. Designed to be a little softer on the palate than English or American Pales, our Australian Ale presents aromas of Pineapple and Pine courtesy of Vic Secret Hops. It is not overly bitter and at 4.3% abv is a good option for a BBQ or a catch up.

Pop Ale Original - This hybrid sensation, unites premium craft beer with a hint of nostalgia, combining quality Australian malt & hops, a dash of superior New Guinea vanilla plus the genius that is Creaming Soda.

The Haar Hazy IPA - The Haar, a Scottish mist from the sea, defines this juicy, hoppy, indisputably luscious Hazy XPA, hitting precise notes of tropical citrus, pine and with a punch of ripe grapefruit, full and deeply satisfying. Azacca and Cascade hops provide the cloudy, mouth tingling exuberance, whilst in the dry hop finish, offer a punch of succulence, warmth and robustness. Boozy at 6.1% but effortless to enjoy.

IXPA - A fitting tribute as our 9th creation, this tangy Xtra Pale Ale, beams with citrus fruity tones and hints of marmalade in a wellhoned rounded body and a perfect dry finish.

Corys Claim Dark Ale - A full-bodied, satisfying Dark Ale, hand-crafted with premium Australian and German Malts, coupled with the finest NZ Pacific Jade and Dr Rudi hops.
